The Philippine Navy demonstrated its growing maritime warfare capabilities during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2026, operating seamlessly alongside allied and partner forces in complex multi-domain drills.
Marking a major operational milestone, the Navy deployed its newly commissioned guided-missile frigate BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6) together with an amphibious company from the Philippine Marine Corps. The deployment highlighted the service’s expanded operational range and readiness to execute high-intensity naval missions.
Hosted in and around Hawaii, RIMPAC 2026, the world’s largest international naval maneuver, convened 30 nations, 30 surface ships and five submarines.
Among the Philippine contingent’s standout accomplishments was securing a third-place finish in the Naval Surface Fire Support multinational live-fire competition, showcasing the precision gunnery and tactical skill of its crew under rigorous testing.
Throughout the exercise, Filipino personnel participated in high-tier training modules spanning complex surface operations, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), mine warfare and multi-domain defense scenarios.
The Philippine Navy said its performance reflected its growing operational readiness and ability to function effectively in demanding multinational environments.
Beyond refining tactical proficiency, participation in RIMPAC 2026 enabled the Navy to solidify operational bonds with regional allies through combined sea-phase exercises. The joint drills sharpened tactical coordination, bolstered mutual trust and deepened technical interoperability across participating forces.
Through its active engagement in RIMPAC 2026, the Navy reaffirmed its strategic push toward building a modern, multi-domain, and self-reliant defense posture while underlining its commitment to a stable, rules-based maritime order in the Indo-Pacific.
