The Philippine Navy and Mexican Navy strengthened operational ties through a shipboard visit and personnel exchange during the Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2026.
Captain Luis Alberto Martinez Bibiano, commanding officer of the Mexican Navy’s ARM Benito Juarez, led a delegation aboard the BRP Miguel Malvar on July 8.
The Philippine contingent, headed by Captain Ryan L. Bakabak, welcomed the visitors and briefed them on the guided-missile frigate’s capabilities, mission and role in the multinational exercise.
Naval personnel from both countries also exchanged operational insights and discussed shipboard procedures and best practices.
As part of the engagement, one Philippine Navy officer embarked aboard the Mexican frigate, while a Mexican naval officer joined the BRP Miguel Malvar during the at-sea phase of RIMPAC.
The exchange allowed both officers to observe each vessel’s operations and gain a better understanding of the other navy’s systems, procedures and capabilities.
The Philippine Navy said the activity supports efforts to improve interoperability and deepen cooperation with partner nations.
It added that such engagements strengthen its contribution to maritime security, regional stability and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
