Malacañang on Wednesday stated that Vice President Sara Duterte retains full discretion over her own tenure but rejected her demand for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to step down as complete nonsense.
“Kung hindi po siya mag-resign, desisyon niya po iyan. Walang nanghihimasok diyan. Pero ang pagsasabi niya na mag-resign ang Pangulo, iyan ay malaking kalokohan,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Wednesday.
Castro issued the statement following comments from the Vice President affirming that she has no plans to step down despite ongoing impeachment proceedings and multiple controversies surrounding her office.
Duterte had previously asserted that the President should resign, citing what she described as failures to address major national issues.
Castro noted that Duterte lacks the standing to demand the resignation of Marcos, who she said remains focused on his duties and working diligently for the welfare of the Filipino people.
