The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its nationwide campaign against smuggling, leading to the seizure of more than P13 million worth of suspected illicit cigarettes in a series of coordinated operations across multiple regions.
In Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, joint operatives intercepted two wooden motorized pump boats in Brgy. Muricay on June 14, recovering 22 master cases of suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at around P1.25 million. The operation was conducted by regional maritime and police units in the early hours of the day.
In Davao Oriental, authorities seized an estimated P8 million worth of contraband during an operation in Brgy. San Ignacio, Manay on June 13. Three individuals were arrested after operatives intercepted 80 master cases and 50 reams of suspected illicit cigarettes.
Separately, in Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay, police intercepted 20 master cases worth approximately P1.14 million, resulting in the arrest of one suspect during an operation in Brgy. Looc Tuburan on June 14.
In Cotabato, another anti-smuggling operation in Pigcawayan town led to the recovery of 43 master cases and 950 reams of suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at about P2.65 million, with two individuals apprehended.
All confiscated goods and suspects were turned over to respective police units for documentation and legal proceedings.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units, saying the sustained operations reflect the agency’s commitment to protect government revenues and curb illegal trade activities that impact both the economy and local livelihoods.
He said the anti-smuggling drive will continue as part of the PNP’s focus on intelligence-driven and coordinated operations nationwide, with sustained support from the national government.
The PNP said it will maintain operational momentum against illicit trade as part of its broader campaign for disciplined, responsive, and community-centered law enforcement.
