Oban Sworn In as National Security Adviser

Retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Eduardo S.L. Oban Jr. has taken his oath as the country’s new National Security Adviser, succeeding Eduardo Año, who retired from government service last week.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administered the oath, formalizing Oban’s appointment to the key national security post.

Oban’s appointment comes as the government continues efforts to strengthen national security, defense planning, and inter-agency coordination toward a free, peaceful, and resilient Philippines, Malacañang said.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979, Oban brings decades of military experience to the role. He served as AFP chief of staff in 2011 and previously held key positions, including deputy chief of staff for plans, Philippine Air Force vice commander, and head of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) Commission.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro earlier said Oban is expected to provide steady leadership in advancing the country’s national security priorities and ensuring continuity in government efforts.

“With his depth of experience, the President is confident that Secretary Oban will provide steady and capable leadership in advancing the country’s national security priorities and ensuring continuity in the government’s efforts to keep the nation safe and secure,” Castro said.
