NorthPort, the domestic cargo terminal of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Manila, on Thursday said it is on track to complete its structural upgrade program by the end of 2027.
ICTSI said the program includes wharf strengthening works at Pier 14 and civil works at Pier 16, aimed at improving infrastructure resilience and ensuring safer and more reliable terminal operations.
Alongside the infrastructure upgrades, NorthPort recently took delivery of four new hybrid rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes manufactured by Mitsui E&S as part of its modernization efforts to accommodate increasing cargo volumes and improve service levels.
The new cranes combine large battery energy storage systems with smaller diesel engines, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared with conventional RTG cranes.
NorthPort estimates that each hybrid unit can reduce average annual carbon emissions by up to 58.7 percent compared with traditional RTG cranes.
