The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has called for an immediate investigation into a hit-and-run incident involving a Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) motorcycle rider and a sport-utility vehicle on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) on Saturday.
Napolcom said video footage circulating on social media showed the SUV hitting the police officer’s motorcycle before fleeing the scene instead of stopping to assist the injured rider.
In a statement on Sunday, Napolcom Executive Director and Vice Chairman Rafael Calinisan described the incident as alarming, noting that it endangered not only a law enforcement officer performing his duty but also other motorists on the expressway.
Calinisan said he expects the PNP-HPG to move swiftly to identify the driver and file the appropriate charges.
He also underscored the need for a thorough review of all available evidence, including CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, and witness accounts, to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
The PNP-HPG, meanwhile, said its investigation is ongoing in coordination with SLEX management to identify and apprehend the driver involved in the incident.
The HPG said the police officer sustained minor injuries in the crash and is now in stable condition.
