The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has intensified its campaign to promote a smoke-free environment through a series of awareness and enforcement activities led by its Health, Public Safety and Environmental Protection Office–Plans, Program Development and Monitoring Division.
As part of the campaign, MMDA personnel conducted inspections of stores located near schools in Pasig, Pasay, Quezon City, Caloocan, Valenzuela and Manila to ensure compliance with regulations on the sale of tobacco and vape products.
Business owners were reminded that selling cigarettes and vape products to minors is prohibited under existing laws.
The agency also carried out surveys to assess the number of smokers and vape users in the areas covered by the campaign, with the data expected to help guide future public health initiatives.
To further promote awareness, MMDA personnel distributed informational flyers and installed sticker signages highlighting the health risks associated with smoking and vaping while encouraging residents to support smoke-free communities.
The MMDA reiterated its call for the public to help reduce smoking-related health risks and environmental pollution by supporting efforts to keep communities across Metro Manila smoke-free.
