Maya Expands Digital Wallet Features with Google Pay Support for Visa Cards

Digital financial services provider Maya and payment technology giant Visa have broadened Google Pay access across the country, officially making the tap-to-pay feature available to Maya wallet cardholders.

The latest rollout extends Google Pay capabilities to holders of Maya physical and virtual wallet cards, building on the initial launch for Maya credit cardholders introduced in November 2025. With this update, Maya cardholders can digitize their cards on compatible Android smartphones and wearables to make contactless payments at retail stores, public transportation terminals and tourist destinations nationwide.

Transactions made via Maya Visa cards on Google Pay utilize Visa’s security tokenization technology. The process shields sensitive account details by substituting physical card numbers with a unique digital token during transactions, preventing card information from being stored on devices or exposed to merchants.

“The Philippines is undergoing a rapid shift to contactless, digital payments and Visa and Maya are playing a crucial role in enabling this transformation,” said Jeffrey Navarro, Visa Philippines country manager.

“With every contactless transaction, we provide speed, convenience, and security for Filipino consumers, reinforcing adoption and trust in new payment technologies. This also aligns closely with the government’s vision to become a cash-lite economy,” Navarro added.

Maya Group President and Maya Bank co-founder Shailesh Baidwan noted that extending the feature to wallet accounts offers users greater daily financial convenience.

“At Maya, we are committed to giving our customers smarter and more convenient ways to manage their money and pay for everyday purchases,” Baidwan said.

“Enabling Google Pay for Maya Visa wallet cards extends the simplicity and flexibility our users expect, allowing them to make secure contactless payments using the mobile phones and devices they already use every day,” he added.

The expansion comes as digital and mobile payment methods gain wider traction across the region. Regional market research from Visa reveals that over 71% of Asia Pacific consumers prefer utilizing smartphones or smart devices for in-store and online purchases. Additionally, 97% of travelers in the region prefer using credit, debit or prepaid cards over cash while traveling, with only 17% planning to carry physical currency.
