Marcos Vows Sustained Education Reforms as PH Posts PISA Gains

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to boosting the country’s education standard following notable progress in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The latest global evaluation showed across-the-board score increases for Filipino learners, who recorded a 20-point rise in reading to 367, a 17-point gain in science to 373, and a 16-point improvement in mathematics to 371 compared to the 2022 results. In a video message, President Marcos highlighted that Filipino students reached Level 2 proficiency in reading, establishing baseline literacy.

He cited PISA findings identifying the Philippines as one of the few education systems making gains in every domain and among the fastest-improving globally, particularly in long-term reading progress.

“The Philippines is among the few education systems improving across all domains. The Philippines is considered one of the fastest-improving educational systems globally with the strongest long-term improvement in reading amongst participating systems,” he said, quoting the PISA results.

Crediting the potential of students and the effectiveness of teachers, the President emphasized the necessity of unified support from parents, local communities and the government.

He pledged sustained investment in essential learning resources, including securing enough qualified teachers, providing access to textbooks, constructing classrooms and school buildings, and expanding internet connection.

Marcos emphasized that continued collaboration in improving the lives of learners yields clear, tangible results for the nation.

“Kaya po, ipapagpatuloy natin lahat ito. Ipapagpatuloy natin lahat ng ating ginagawa… Nakikita naman natin, kapag pinagkaisahan natin ang pagpapaganda ng buhay ng ating mga mag-aaral ay talagang ramdam na ramdam ang napakagandang resulta,” the President said.
