President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is accelerating key government reforms to deliver tangible, visible improvements to the daily lives of Filipinos, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Lino Cayetano announced Monday.
Quoting the President, Cayetano emphasized the administration’s renewed focus, “we are shifting gears to accelerate reform. Secretary Dizon goes to DOTr to fix the daily commute. Secretary Lopez goes to DPWH to make sure the reforms there last. All of this is to make government service faster and easier for our countrymen.”
Under the new directives, Secretary Vince Dizon returns to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) with the President’s full backing. His core mandate is to ease the daily burden of public commuters, streamline operations at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) by eliminating long queues and fixers, as well as to fast-track critical mass transit infrastructure projects to reduce travel times for workers and students.
During his tenure at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Dizon disrupted long-standing systems of waste and corruption, opening thousands of projects to public scrutiny, finishing stalled infrastructure and establishing a baseline of transparency and accountability.
To secure and build upon those advancements, Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez, a lawyer and certified public accountant, has been appointed to lead the DPWH. Lopez is tasked with institutionalizing these transparency safeguards into permanent rules and systems that will endure beyond the current administration, while simultaneously accelerating the construction of essential roads, bridges and local community infrastructure.
Cayetano said the strategy is putting the right leaders where they can achieve maximum impact with Dizon driving rapid results at Transportation and Lopez institutionalizing long-term stability and progress at Public Works.
