Marcos Pushes Infrastructure Repairs, Dams, 100-Km Dike as Flood Solutions

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to accelerate the immediate repair of damaged infrastructure to address severe flooding across affected regions. The order comes alongside ongoing immediate interventions, including declogging, desilting, and dredging operations.

During a Palace press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the administration is continuously monitoring current projects to ensure their durability and effectiveness. Beyond immediate relief, she announced that the government is studying significant long-term infrastructure to permanently mitigate flood risks.

According to Castro, proposed measures include the construction of five dams along the Sabo River in Nueva Ecija.

In addition, the administration is considering a massive 100-kilometer dike extending as far as Pilar, Bataan.

The proposed mega-dike project is aimed at offering a lasting solution to coastal and overflow flooding driven by waters from Manila Bay.
