Manila Archdiocese Promotes Biodiesel Drive Using Used Cooking Oil

The Manila Archdiocese has launched a biodiesel recycling drive, encouraging parishioners to donate used cooking oil as a sustainable response to rising fuel costs.

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula said the initiative aims to provide an alternative fuel source while reducing environmental pollution caused by improper disposal of waste oil.

Under the program, each parish will establish designated collection points where parishioners can drop off used cooking oil stored in clean, sealed containers.

Collected oil will be processed into biodiesel on a regular schedule, with only participating parishioners eligible to receive the converted fuel.

To support processing and hauling costs, parishes will ask for a small donation per liter of oil collected.

Advincula noted that improper disposal of used cooking oil can clog waterways and contribute to pollution, while properly processed biodiesel offers a cleaner, renewable energy source.
