A 28-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing P2,000 worth of diesel from a vehicle in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City on Sunday night.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), officers were conducting a mobile patrol shortly after 9 pm when they saw the suspect, identified only as alias “Bernard,” suspiciously leaving the garage of a house inside the Villa Gracia compound along Payatas Road.
Police said the suspect was carrying a gallon container when officers approached him and brought him to the barangay hall for questioning.
During the inquiry, the suspect claimed he was instructed by the vehicle owner’s nephew to get diesel from the vehicle’s tank for use in the company’s backhoe operations.
However, police said both the vehicle owner and the nephew denied giving any such instruction. They also told investigators that the suspect was no longer connected with their company.
Authorities recovered from the suspect a gallon container filled with 20 liters of diesel.
The suspect remains under police custody while authorities prepare the filing of formal charges.
