Knicks Stage Historic 29-Point Comeback, Poised to Clinch NBA Title

It was the most dramatic comeback of the century. Well, in history.

In a night of heart-stopping drama and unforgettable resilience, the New York Knicks pulled off the largest comeback in NBA Finals history as they edged the San Antonio Spurs, 107-106 and took a commanding 3-1 series lead. One victory now separates New York from snagging another trophy.

The last time the Knicks won an NBA crown was in 1973, or about 53 years ago, when they beat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.

The game began as a nightmare for the Knicks. The Spurs, electrifying on offense, poured in a staggering 76 points in the first half—marking the most points ever scored on the road in an NBA Finals first half. At one point, San Antonio led by 29 points, including a 15-point advantage entering the fourth quarter. Analysts pegged New York’s chance of winning at a mere 0.4 percent.

It was a tale of two halves. The Spurs’ offensive firepower inexplicably cooled, managing just 30 points in the second half—a 46-point collapse that ties the largest drop from first half to second in any playoff game in the shot clock era.

For the Knicks, the comeback was a masterclass in grit and determination. Trailing for nearly the entire game, New York didn’t seize the lead until a clutch bucket from Jalen Brunson with 1:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. Remarkably, the Knicks led for only 2 percent of the game, yet their unrelenting push rewrote the record books.

“This is what legends are made of,” said a Knicks spokesperson after the game. “Down by 29, facing near-impossible odds, and still finding a way to win—that’s the heart of New York basketball.”

The victory cements the Knicks’ place in NBA history, not just for the sheer magnitude of the comeback but for the audacity, poise, and resilience it took to topple one of the league’s most potent teams. With Game 5 looming, the city buzzes with anticipation, knowing the championship could finally return to the Big Apple.

The Knicks’ monumental rally stands as a testament to the unpredictability of the Finals, a game that will be remembered for generations as a night when hope, grit, and sheer determination overcame the impossible.
