Eighteen people were injured after a modern jeepney and an armored van collided along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City early Friday, causing the jeepney to overturn and briefly clog traffic in the area.
The Quezon City Traffic Management Department said the crash happened at around 5:11 a.m. along the westbound lane of Quezon Avenue near Miriam Defensor Santiago Avenue.
Photos from the scene showed passengers climbing out of the overturned modern jeepney through its windows. One passenger was trapped inside the vehicle but was later rescued.
The injured passengers were taken to Quezon City General Hospital, East Avenue Medical Center, and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute for treatment.
The jeepney conductor said only 20 people, including the driver and conductor, were onboard when the collision occurred.
The crash temporarily blocked one lane of Quezon Avenue and triggered heavy traffic in the area during the morning rush.
Police Lt. Col. Brian Jaime, head of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit, said investigators will secure CCTV footage to determine what caused the collision.
Authorities said both drivers gave conflicting accounts and blamed each other for the crash.
