A Grade 11 student died after being stabbed by fellow students following a brawl at a billiard hall in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City, on Thursday night.
Police said the victim’s group got into an argument with another group of youths around 9:00 p.m., which quickly escalated into a fistfight.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Aniway, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 16, said CCTV footage showed the confrontation spilling out onto the street as the youths ran out of the establishment.
Authorities were alerted at around 11:45 p.m. after receiving a call from Commonwealth Hospital regarding injured youths brought to the facility.
“Immediately, we went there and found out that one had been stabbed and another had suffered a head injury,” Aniway said.
According to the police investigation, the altercation began after the two groups encountered each other and failed to settle their differences. During the ensuing brawl, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest and thigh.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. A friend of the victim also sustained a head injury after allegedly being struck with a rock.
Follow-up operations led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect, while two minor suspects, aged 15 and 16, were also taken into custody. Investigators confirmed that those involved were Grade 10 and Grade 11 students from different schools.
The victim’s family declined to comment on the incident.
The 18-year-old suspect is currently detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit custodial facility in Camp Karingal, facing complaints for homicide and physical injuries. The two minor suspects are set to be turned over to Bahay Pag-asa, a youth rehabilitation center.
