Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. joined President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a high-level inter-agency meeting to coordinate government mitigation strategies against expected El Niño dry spells.
The science department presented updated climate models forecasting dry conditions across provinces through early 2027, outlining critical data to guide national resource management.
Executive directives instructed state agencies to accelerate preparations covering agriculture, water supply, public health, and power grid security.
“All provinces are expected to experience drought conditions by the end of March, requiring proactive state action,” Solidum said.
He also said, “The science department will continue providing real-time data to help local governments protect crop yields and water reservoirs.”
The executive panel emphasized that science-backed monitoring remains essential to ensuring uninterrupted public services and stabilizing food supplies throughout the dry period.
