The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) have warned the public about false claims circulating online that overseas Filipino workers will receive ₱150,000 in financial assistance.
In an advisory, the agencies said posts spreading the information on social media are fake and urged Filipinos to be cautious about misleading content.
Officials noted that some of the posts and videos circulating online appear convincing because they use artificial intelligence tools to mimic official announcements.
The agencies said the spread of misinformation is particularly concerning as the government continues to focus on ensuring the safety and welfare of Filipino workers in the Middle East amid rising regional tensions.
Authorities urged migrant workers and their families to verify information only through official channels of the DMW and OWWA.
While clarifying that the ₱150,000 assistance being claimed online does not exist, OWWA said its members continue to receive various forms of government support.
These include financial assistance for OFWs in distress, livelihood and reintegration programs for returning workers, training support, scholarship grants, and other upskilling opportunities.
