A 55-year-old man wanted for the alleged sexual abuse of his minor stepdaughter in Las Piñas City was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Sorsogon after attempting to evade law enforcement.
Operatives from the CIDG Women and Children Complaints Unit (WCCU) and the CIDG Sorsogon Provincial Field Unit executed a manhunt operation at around 7:05 a.m. on August 15 in Barangay Butag, Bulan, Sorsogon.
The suspect was arrested under a warrant issued on January 27, 2026, by a Las Piñas City court for four counts of lascivious conduct under Section 5(b) of Republic Act No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act). Recommended bail was set at P400,000 for each count.
A report to CIDG Director PMGen. Robert AA Morico II indicated that the suspect allegedly abused his stepdaughter on four separate occasions between August and November 2025 at their home in Las Piñas City. Following the incidents, the suspect fled to Sorsogon to go into hiding, but CIDG tracker teams located and captured him.
The CIDG leadership commended the operating units, led by PCol. Cristine M. Tabdi of the WCCU and PLtCol. John Murray C. Cutaran of the CIDG Sorsogon Provincial Field Unit, for the successful operation.
“The accomplishment underscores the CIDG’s commitment to protecting women and children from all forms of abuse and violence. The arrest of the accused is the first step of helping the minor victim attain the justice she deserves,” the CIDG said.
The CIDG also assured the public that the unit remains “resolute in enforcing the law; and unrelenting and unyielding in pursuing and capturing criminals, most wanted persons, and fugitives across the country.”
