The Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed a criminal case against a police non-commissioned officer following a road accident involving a PNP-marked vehicle along EDSA in Quezon City.
A complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property was filed on April 21, 2026, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, after authorities completed the initial investigation and documentation.
The crash occurred on April 17 at around 5:00 p.m. along EDSA northbound near Main Avenue, Barangay Socorro, when a PNP Toyota Coaster collided with a commercial bus during a lane maneuver. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles sustained damage.
Following the incident, the officer was relieved from his post at the Transportation and Maintenance Division and reassigned to the Personnel and Human Resource and Administration Service. The officer-in-charge of the division was also relieved as part of internal accountability measures.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the organization enforces strict accountability across all ranks.
“We hold our personnel to a high standard of accountability. Kasama sa tungkulin namin ang siguraduhing ang bawat kilos ay naaayon sa disiplina at responsibilidad na inaasahan ng publiko,” Nartatez said.
He added that the PNP is strengthening internal controls and operational discipline under its reform agenda, particularly in integrity monitoring, to improve public service delivery.
The PNP also assured that both legal and administrative proceedings are ongoing and that corrective measures are being implemented to prevent similar incidents.
