A lawmaker is seeking institutional support for the nation’s creative sector following a historic performance by Filipino crews at the 2026 World Hip Hop Dance Championship.
Senator Bam Aquino filed Senate Resolution No. 591 to formally commend and congratulate Femme MNL, HQ, The Crew, Folk Jumpers and Sayawatha Jr. for securing five medals in Phoenix, Arizona. The resolution also highlights Aquino’s broader legislative push as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship to expand opportunities for Filipino artists, filmmakers, designers and performers in global markets.
Under his five-point agenda for the country’s creative economy, Aquino is advocating to establish a dedicated government authority to promote local talent globally, modeled after South Korea’s Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).
“The continued success of Filipino dance crews in international hip hop competitions affirms the Philippines’ reputation for producing exceptional dance talent and highlights the country’s vibrant creative sector, whose artists continue to elevate Filipino culture and creativity on the world stage,” Aquino stated in the resolution.
The Senate measure acknowledged the support systems behind the dancers, including coaches, choreographers, families, and dance organizations, in enabling local performers to compete internationally.
“These accomplishments inspire young Filipinos to pursue excellence in the performing arts and reaffirm the importance of supporting dance as a platform for creativity, cultural expression and talent development,” Aquino added.
The resolution comes alongside previous legislative commendations filed by the senator for other international cultural milestones, including Senate Resolution No. 545 for P-pop group SB19’s showcase at Lollapalooza in Chicago, and Senate Resolution No. 370 honoring girl group BINI for their historic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
During the global dance competition organized by Hip Hop International from July 25 to August 1, all-queer collective Femme MNL won gold in the Megacrew Division, while The Crew claimed silver. In the Adult Division, HQ took gold and Folk Jumpers earned bronze, with Sayawatha Jr. securing bronze in the Junior Division.
