The Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division (2ID) will host a two-day summit this week to strengthen government communication and address the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital space.
Scheduled from April 29 to 30, the 2ID Digital and Social Media Summit will bring together social media managers and public information officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units, and partner agencies.
The initiative aims to improve coordination among government communicators and promote the timely and accurate dissemination of public information across platforms.
The event carries the acronym VIRAL, or “Voices for Innovation and Responsible Action in Leveraging Social Media,” and the theme “TRIUMPH,” which stands for Trusted Narratives, Unified Messaging, and Public Confidence, underscoring the importance of credible and coordinated communication.
Philippine Army Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations Col. Francisco Molina said government communicators play a key role in ensuring the public receives factual and reliable information amid a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
He said official communication must cut through online noise and help the public make sense of information in real time.
Participants are expected from various AFP units, PNP regional offices, government agencies in Calabarzon and Mimaropa, local government units, and media organizations.
Maj. Gen. Ramon Zagala, commander of the 2ID, said the modern security environment extends beyond the battlefield into the information space.
“In today’s digital environment, the fight does not stop on the ground but in the minds of the people,” Zagala said. “Our role is to ensure truth remains stronger than misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation.”
He added that government messaging must not only be heard but also trusted by the public.
The Army said the summit underscores its efforts to strengthen strategic communication and support a more unified and credible information environment aligned with national security and public service goals.
