The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomed the latest OCTA Research survey showing that most Filipinos support joint military exercises in the West Philippine Sea with allied and partner nations.

The March 19 to 25, 2026 Tugon ng Masa nationwide survey found that 71 percent of adult Filipinos favor joint military exercises in the WPS.

Support was strong across major island groups, with 74 percent in Metro Manila, 73 percent in Mindanao, and 70 percent each in the Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

The survey also showed high approval in several regions, including 100 percent in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan; 90 percent in South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City; and 87 percent in Western Visayas.

The AFP said the results reflect broad public backing for cooperative defense activities, including the annual Balikatan exercises and regular joint patrols in the West Philippine Sea.

It said the strong support reinforces efforts to strengthen defense partnerships, improve interoperability with allied and partner forces, and promote a secure and stable maritime environment.

The AFP said joint activities in the West Philippine Sea are part of continuing efforts to enhance maritime security and uphold the country’s interests in its waters.
