The Armed Forces of the Philippines said it is closely monitoring the Iglesia ni Cristo “emergency rally” at the People Power Monument, while stressing that the military remains professional and non-partisan.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said the military is coordinating with the Philippine National Police and other concerned government agencies as thousands of INC members continue to gather along EDSA.
“The AFP recognizes and respects the constitutional right of every Filipino to peacefully assemble and express their views,” Padilla said.
However, Padilla emphasized that public gatherings must still comply with existing laws, local regulations, and permit requirements.
“All public activities must be conducted in accordance with existing laws, local regulations, and the necessary permits issued by the appropriate authorities,” she said.
Padilla said the PNP and other law enforcement agencies are taking the lead in maintaining order at the rally site.
“We likewise encourage organizers to ensure that their activities do not unduly disrupt public order or cause unnecessary inconvenience to commuters, workers, students, and other members of the public,” she said.
Padilla reiterated that the AFP will remain outside partisan matters while supporting efforts to preserve peace, public safety, and the rule of law.
“As a professional, non-partisan institution, the AFP remains committed to supporting national efforts that uphold peace, public safety, and the rule of law while respecting the rights and welfare of all Filipinos and safeguarding the stability of our democratic institutions,” Padilla said.
