Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. led the 39th founding anniversary celebration of the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) at Camp Guillermo Nakar in Lucena City, Quezon on June 26, citing the command’s role in sustaining internal security gains in the region.
During the ceremony, Brawner conferred awards on outstanding military officers and personnel and inspected firearms recovered in recent military operations, underscoring SOLCOM’s accomplishments in Southern Luzon.
In his message, the AFP chief commended SOLCOM’s “Road to Peace in Southern Luzon,” which he said contributed to weakening communist insurgent forces and advancing peace and development efforts in the area.
Brawner said the command’s gains were made possible through the whole-of-nation approach, along with strong coordination among government agencies, local government units, communities, and security forces.
He urged troops to remain focused on protecting the Filipino people and preserving the progress achieved in Southern Luzon.
The AFP said it will continue to support SOLCOM in sustaining internal peace and security while carrying out its constitutional mandate to defend the country.
