DILG Pushes Faster 911 Response as Emergencies Rise

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said the Unified 911 Emergency Hotline continues to improve emergency response nationwide, stressing that every second matters during accidents, disasters, and life-threatening situations.

In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make government services more accessible, the DILG said the country’s emergency hotline is strengthening its five-minute response policy to ensure that help reaches people quickly during crises.

The system allows faster coordination among the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), local emergency responders, and other frontline agencies, enabling authorities to dispatch assistance more efficiently.

According to the PNP, the 911 hotline’s response time has improved and is now consistently below the five-minute target.

The DILG said the improvement is supported by upgraded technologies, including GPS tracking, integrated command centers, enhanced emergency communications systems, and real-time dispatch coordination. These tools help responders locate callers faster and deliver immediate assistance.

Several recent incidents showed how the system has helped save lives.

In Malaybalay, Bukidnon, a four-year-old child was rescued from a drowning incident after authorities quickly responded to a 911 call. The child was given first aid before being rushed to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center.

In Quezon City, emergency responders assisted a 52-year-old vehicular accident victim along Old Balara and transported the patient to Diliman Doctors Hospital.

In Sipocot, Camarines Sur, responders provided immediate medical attention to a 30-year-old patient who allegedly suffered from heat stroke and brought the patient safely to a district hospital.

Since its launch, the Emergency 911 National Call Center has handled 9,852,542 emergency and distress calls nationwide, helping authorities improve coordination, speed up deployment, and provide life-saving assistance to Filipinos in moments of danger and uncertainty.
