The Department of Energy (DOE) is strengthening its fuel quality monitoring capabilities with the deployment of a newly procured Eraspec FTIR Fuel Analyzer, a move aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of fuel testing nationwide.

Through its Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB), Oil Industry Standards and Monitoring Division (OISMD), the DOE conducted end-user training for the equipment on May 12, 2026.

The training was attended by personnel from the OIMB-OISMD, DOE Field Offices, and DOE Laboratory Services, who were briefed on the proper operation and utilization of the fuel analyzer.

The activity sought to enhance the technical capability of DOE personnel in using the new equipment for fuel quality monitoring, particularly in ensuring that petroleum products being distributed and sold in the market comply with established fuel quality standards.

The DOE said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to modernize its monitoring systems, strengthen enforcement of fuel quality regulations, and support more efficient field and laboratory operations.

By expanding the technical capacity of its personnel and improving access to modern testing tools, the department aims to further safeguard consumer welfare and help ensure that fuel products sold nationwide meet quality and safety requirements.

The agency said the use of the Eraspec FTIR Fuel Analyzer is expected to support faster and more reliable monitoring activities as it continues to oversee compliance within the downstream oil industry.
