Simple Act of Policeman Touches Hearts Online

A Quezon City police officer earned public praise after he was caught on CCTV helping an elderly woman safely cross a busy street, in a simple act of service that later gained attention online.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the officer as Police Staff Sgt. Ramil Gonzales, who was patrolling along A. Bonifacio corner Mauban Street in Quezon City on May 15 when he noticed an elderly woman struggling to cross the road.

According to the PNP, Gonzales approached the woman to offer assistance. Although she initially declined, the police officer stayed nearby and waited for the right moment to help her cross safely.

The incident, captured on CCTV, later circulated online and drew positive reactions from netizens.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended Gonzales, saying the gesture showed that police service goes beyond law enforcement and includes compassion for the community.

“Ang mga ganitong simpleng pagtulong ay malaking bagay para sa ating mga kababayan. Ipinapakita nito na ang isang pulis ay hindi lamang tagapagpatupad ng batas kundi katuwang din ng komunidad sa oras ng pangangailangan,” Nartatez said.

“Dapat nating ipagpatuloy ang ganitong uri ng malasakit at pagrespeto sa bawat mamamayan,” he added.

Nartatez said small but meaningful acts of service help strengthen public trust in the police force.

The PNP said it would continue promoting responsive and compassionate public service under its “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas” campaign.
