Carnap Suspect Falls in Caloocan Manhunt

A 31-year-old man wanted for carnapping was arrested in Caloocan City during a joint intelligence-driven manhunt operation by the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).

The suspect, a driver and resident of Malabon City, was apprehended at around 6:30 pm in Barangay 80 by personnel of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) Benguet Tracker Team, Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Intelligence personnel and the Caloocan City Police Station.

Authorities served a warrant of arrest issued on May 11 by Judge Josephine Fernandez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 76 in San Mateo, Rizal. The suspect is facing a case for violation of Republic Act No. 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, under Criminal Case No. 35876-26-SMR.

The court recommended bail of P300,000.

Police said documentation and processing of the suspect are ongoing at the Caloocan City Police Station before his turnover to the issuing court.

PNP-HPG Director Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan said the arrest reflects the group’s sustained campaign against wanted persons linked to motor vehicle-related crimes.

“The PNP-HPG remains relentless in tracking down individuals involved in carnapping and ensuring that wanted persons are brought before the courts,” Batangan said.

The PNP-HPG urged the public to continue reporting wanted persons and suspicious activities to authorities as part of efforts to curb carnapping and other road-related crimes.
