The Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is set to issue a subpoena to Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa as part of an investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) linked to his previous assignments in Davao, Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla said on Sunday.
Speaking during a press briefing at Camp Crame, Remulla confirmed that the CIDG would formally summon the former Philippine National Police chief on Monday to appear before investigators.
“The CIDG will issue a subpoena tomorrow to General Dela Rosa to appear personally before the CIDG office here at Camp Crame in aid of the investigation of the previous crimes,” Remulla said.
According to the Interior chief, the investigation is connected to more than 100 complaints involving alleged EJK incidents that reportedly occurred during Dela Rosa’s tenure as Davao city police director and later as regional director.
“It’s all related to the 100-plus complaints of EJK that occurred during his term as city director and regional director of Davao,” Remulla added.
Dela Rosa previously served as PNP chief during the Duterte administration and became one of the most prominent figures associated with the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.
