The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has arrested a national most wanted person facing two counts of murder during a manhunt operation in Malapatan, Sarangani.
Authorities identified the suspect only by the alias “Toto,” a resident of Barangay Kinam, who was apprehended on May 5 through a joint operation led by the CIDG Sarangani Provincial Field Unit, the Sarangani Provincial Intelligence Team of Regional Intelligence Unit 12, and local police units.
The arrest was carried out based on a warrant issued by a Sarangani court on November 7, 2023.
According to a report submitted to CIDG Director Robert Morico II, the suspect was listed as a National Most Wanted Person and carried a P145,000 reward under a Department of the Interior and Local Government memorandum circular.
Investigators said the case stemmed from a violent attack that took place on April 2, 2000, when the suspect and several alleged accomplices reportedly stormed a residence in Barangay Kihan, Malapatan.
Authorities alleged that the armed group simultaneously shot and hacked two male cousins, resulting in their deaths.
The CIDG said the arrest forms part of the intensified nationwide manhunt campaign being implemented under the directive of PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr..
Morico commended CIDG Regional Field Unit 12 chief Annie Langcay, the CIDG Sarangani Provincial Field Unit led by Julius Vallejo, and other participating intelligence and territorial police units for the successful operation.
The CIDG said the arrest reflects the organization’s continued efforts to track down fugitives and ensure justice for victims and their families.
Authorities assured the public that operations against wanted persons and fugitives would continue nationwide.
