Philippine pop phenomenon BINI received a Senate tribute on Wednesday after making history as the first Filipino act to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, one of the world’s biggest music and cultural events.
The eight-member group was formally honored after the Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 370, authored by Bam Aquino, recognizing BINI’s landmark performances during the festival’s April 10 and 17, 2026 shows at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
During plenary deliberations, Aquino described the achievement as a major breakthrough for Filipino music and culture on the global stage.
“For the first time, a Filipino group performed at one of the largest and most famous music festivals in the world. We can say that this success is a reflection of Filipino talent and skill on the global stage,” Aquino said.
Senators also emphasized how BINI used its international platform to highlight Filipino identity through music, fashion, and performance. They described the performance as a source of pride for Filipinos, especially at a time when positive national stories resonate strongly with the public.
Aquino noted that the group incorporated Filipino-inspired elements into its Coachella set, particularly during performances of their hit song Pantropiko. Their stage presentation featured tropical visuals, local-inspired styling, and choreography influenced by Filipino aesthetics, while the members introduced themselves using their native languages.
The Senate resolution praised BINI for exemplifying Filipino excellence and for helping elevate the country’s creative industry on the international stage.
BINI performed a 10-song set during the festival, including fan favorites “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” “Karera,” and “Shagidi.”
The group is composed of eight girls, namely, Aiah Arceta, Colet Vergara, Maloi Ricalde, Gwen Apuli, Stacey Sevilleja, Mikha Lim, Jhoanna Robles, and Sheena Catacutan.
Aquino added that BINI’s success reflects the growing global potential of the Philippine creative sector, which continues to gain recognition as a driver of cultural influence, innovation, and economic opportunity.
For many Filipinos, particularly younger audiences, BINI’s appearance at Coachella symbolized a new era for Filipino pop culture, one that embraces global audiences without losing its distinctly Filipino identity.
