A majority of Filipinos continue to express trust and approval in the country’s police force, according to a recent national survey released by OCTA Research.

The first quarter Tugon ng Masa survey, conducted from March 19 to 21, showed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) received a 63-percent trust rating and a 61-percent performance rating among respondents.

The survey covered 1,200 adult Filipinos nationwide and carried a margin of error of ±3 percent.

Findings showed that 63 percent of respondents said they trust the police, while 17 percent expressed distrust. Another 19 percent remained undecided or ambivalent. This translates to a net trust rating of +46.

In terms of regional distribution, trust in the PNP was highest in Mindanao at 74 percent, followed by the Visayas at 66 percent, Balance Luzon at 59 percent, and the National Capital Region at 54 percent. Distrust was highest in the Visayas at 22 percent.

Across socioeconomic groups, trust was strongest among Class E respondents at 83 percent, followed by Class D at 66 percent. Trust was lowest among Class ABC at 42 percent, which also recorded the highest level of distrust at the same percentage.

The survey also found that 61 percent of respondents were satisfied with the PNP’s overall performance in the first quarter of the year, while 20 percent expressed dissatisfaction. Nineteen percent were undecided. This results in a net performance rating of +41.

Regional results showed highest satisfaction in Mindanao at 69 percent, followed by the Visayas at 63 percent, Luzon at 59 percent, and the National Capital Region at 52 percent, where dissatisfaction was highest at 23 percent.

Among socioeconomic classes, satisfaction was highest in Class D at 65 percent, followed by Class E at 62 percent, and Class ABC at 42 percent, which also recorded the highest dissatisfaction level at 39 percent.

Overall, the survey suggests continued public confidence in the PNP, though results also point to variations in trust and satisfaction across regions and income groups.
