PNP Reports Sustained Decline in Major Crimes Over Three Years

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a steady drop in major or “focus” crimes over the past three years, citing April data that show a continued improvement in the country’s peace and order situation.

PNP records show that focus crime incidents declined from 3,961 in April 2024 to 3,002 in April 2025, and further to 2,616 in April 2026,marking an overall reduction of 34 percent across the period.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. attributed the trend to intensified police operations, stronger coordination among units, and increased community cooperation.

“Patuloy po nating nakikita ang positibong resulta ng ating mga operasyon. This improvement is the result of focused police efforts on the ground, stronger coordination, and the support of our communities,” Nartatez said.

The police said key crime categories such as murder, homicide, rape, and carnapping all showed consistent declines, contributing to the overall reduction in focus crimes.

Monthly figures for 2026 also reflected a downward trajectory, with incidents dropping from 2,607 in February to 2,394 in March, and further to 2,166 in April. This translates to an 8.2-percent decrease from February to March, a 9.5-percent drop from March to April, and a total decline of 17 percent over the three-month span.

The PNP noted that April’s figures coincided with the rollout of its Safer Cities Initiative, which focuses on increased police visibility, closer coordination with local government units, and targeted deployment in high-risk urban areas.

“These numbers show that our efforts are working, but we will not be complacent. Tuloy-tuloy ang ating trabaho para mas mapababa pa ang krimen at mas mapalapit ang serbisyo sa tao,” Nartatez added.

The police force said it will continue to strengthen patrol operations, improve rapid response capabilities, and deepen coordination with local governments to sustain the downward trend in crime and enhance public safety nationwide.
