Authorities destroyed more than P43.6 million worth of marijuana plants and related items in a weeklong anti-drug operation across the Cordillera region, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The Police Regional Office–Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) conducted 18 eradication operations from April 26 to May 2, targeting illegal cultivation sites in Benguet, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.

The operations resulted in the destruction of about 183,034 fully grown marijuana plants, 84,000 seedlings, and over 30,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops.

Mountain Province recorded the highest value of destroyed plants at P31.36 million, followed by Benguet with P10.71 million and Kalinga with P1.6 million, indicating continued large-scale cultivation in parts of the region.

PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the operations reflect sustained efforts to curb illegal drugs at the source.

“Hindi tayo titigil hangga’t may mga plantasyon at aktibidad na sumisira sa ating komunidad. This is about protecting our people and securing the future of our youth,” he said.

The crackdown is part of the PNP’s intensified anti-drug campaign, which focuses on intelligence-driven operations and coordination with local stakeholders to dismantle illegal drug activities, particularly in remote areas.

Police said similar operations will continue as part of broader efforts to maintain peace and order and prevent the spread of illegal drugs.
