Suspect Arrested for Anti-Fencing, Stolen Motorcycle Recovered in Negros Oriental

A coordinated police operation led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) reported.

The operation was carried out late morning on May 1, 2026, at the Manjuyod Municipal Police Station in Barangay Poblacion. Personnel from the Provincial Highway Patrol Team and Special Operations Team, in coordination with local police, acted on a report of a suspicious motorcycle and rider in the area.

Authorities apprehended a 23-year-old resident after confirming that the motorcycle in his possession—a black Suzuki Smash—had been reported stolen. Records showed that the vehicle was registered to another individual in the province.

The suspect is facing charges under Presidential Decree No. 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law, which penalizes the possession or trade of stolen property. Police said the arrest was made after establishing that the suspect had control of the stolen vehicle.

He is currently detained under the custody of the Highway Patrol Group for booking and documentation, while authorities prepare to file charges before the provincial prosecutor’s office.

The recovered motorcycle has been impounded and will undergo further forensic examination, including macro-etching, to confirm its identity before it is returned to its rightful owner.

PNP-HPG Acting Director Rommel Batangan said the operation highlights the importance of coordinated police work in addressing vehicle-related crimes. He added that prompt reporting and verification are crucial in preventing the circulation of stolen vehicles.

Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles or activities as efforts continue to curb crimes involving stolen property.
