The Philippines will host the 48th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Cebu City from May 6 to 8, bringing together Southeast Asian leaders to discuss regional cooperation, economic resilience, and sustainability under its chairmanship.
Anchored on the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” the summit is expected to address key concerns, including energy and food security, as well as the safety of ASEAN nationals.
In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to streamline preparations, the original five-day schedule has been reduced to a three-day program covering preparatory meetings and leaders’ sessions.
Officials said the summit will also tackle urgent geopolitical issues, including tensions in the Middle East, underscoring the need for dialogue, stability, and coordinated action among member states amid global uncertainty.
Key events include the Opening Ceremony, ASEAN Summit Plenary, Retreat Session, and the BIMP-EAGA Summit.
Beyond diplomacy, the Philippines aims to showcase Cebu as a growing hub for trade and investment, supported by its strategic location, expanding infrastructure, and skilled workforce.
Organizers said the country is committed to delivering a secure, efficient, and forward-looking summit that reflects ASEAN’s shared vision of a more resilient and sustainable region.
