The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday warned that 13 areas nationwide are expected to experience dangerous heat index levels, or above 42 degrees Celsius.

Based on forecasts from the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA), the following areas may be affected:

  • NAIA, Pasay City, Metro Manila
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan
  • Aparri, Cagayan
  • Iba, Zambales
  • Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City
  • Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite
  • UPLB, Los Baños, Laguna
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
  • Cuyo, Palawan
  • Masbate City, Masbate
  • Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur
  • Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

The DOH said a dangerous heat index may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could lead to heat stroke with prolonged exposure.

To prevent heat-related illnesses, the public is advised to stay hydrated, eat fruits rich in water, avoid beverages such as coffee, soft drinks, tea, and alcohol, and limit exposure to direct sunlight, especially from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The public is also encouraged to monitor heat index updates through PAGASA’s iHeatMap website.
