Filipino-Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza, known for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, dies at 46

Eric Bauza spent his career giving voices to characters the world would never forget. Now, the world remembers the man behind those voices

For years, millions of cartoon fans laughed at the antics of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck without necessarily knowing the Filipino-Canadian talent behind their familiar voices. That performer was Eric Bauza, whose remarkable ability to bring classic animated characters to life made him one of the industry’s most accomplished voice actors.

Bauza died on Sunday, October 25, at his home in Los Angeles County, California. He was 46.

His death was confirmed by his family through an announcement on his official Instagram account. Records cited from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified hypertensive cardiovascular disease, a condition associated with long-term high blood pressure, as the cause of death. Authorities classified his death as natural.

The news marked an unexpected loss for the animation community, particularly for audiences who grew up with the Looney Tunes franchise.

Born on December 7, 1979, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, Bauza was raised in a family with strong Filipino roots. His parents had immigrated from the Philippines to Canada in the late 1960s.

Long before he became a recognizable name in animation, Bauza was a young cartoon enthusiast who spent his weekends watching animated shows with his brother.

Among the characters that captured his imagination were Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, whose exaggerated voices, comic timing, and personalities would eventually become central to his professional career.

But his journey into entertainment did not begin behind a microphone.

Bauza initially pursued animation as a character designer, developing his artistic skills before transitioning into voice acting. His early professional credits included The Ripping Friends in 2001.

What followed was a career spanning more than two decades and hundreds of television and film credits.

Bauza’s greatest professional distinction was his ability to perform several legendary cartoon characters, often within the same production.

He became a modern voice of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck while also portraying Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, and Road Runner.

His performances featured in productions including Looney Tunes Cartoons, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, and Coyote vs. Acme.

Outside the Looney Tunes universe, he contributed to popular franchises such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ben 10: Omniverse, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

His talent earned him three Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, establishing his reputation as a performer capable of preserving the identities of classic characters while introducing them to younger audiences.

Taking over characters historically associated with legendary voice actor Mel Blanc was no ordinary assignment.

For Bauza, the challenge involved more than imitating recognizable voices. His performances required precise comic timing, distinctive characterization, and the ability to make familiar personalities entertaining for contemporary audiences.

His contribution was recognized by Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks Chairman Channing Dungey, who paid tribute to his years of work with Warner Bros. Animation and his dedication to the Looney Tunes legacy.

Bauza remained professionally active until his death. Among the projects in development were Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, where he was expected to reprise Daffy Duck, and The Dragon Masters.

Bauza’s success carried particular significance for the Filipino diaspora.

Raised in Canada by Filipino parents, he built an international career in an industry where voice performers often remain less visible than the characters they portray.

His story connected a childhood passion for cartoons with an extraordinary professional achievement: becoming the voice of characters he once watched as a fan.

While Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck existed long before his career began, Bauza helped keep their personalities recognizable and relevant for a new generation.

His death leaves a significant absence in modern animation, but his performances remain part of countless films, television episodes, and childhood memories.
