The hit musical television series Glee is making a comeback, with original star Lea Michele reportedly returning as Rachel Berry more than a decade after the show ended.
Disney has ordered a revival of the musical comedy-drama for Disney+ and Hulu, marking the franchise’s return 11 years after its six-season run concluded on Fox in 2015.
According to Variety, multiple sources have indicated that Michele will reprise her role as Rachel, the ambitious singer whose Broadway dreams became central to the original series. However, Disney has yet to officially confirm her involvement.
Series creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed that he had completed a script with fellow creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.
Murphy also said he had contacted around 10 original cast members about potentially returning, although a complete cast lineup has not been announced.
Heather Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce, and Chord Overstreet, who portrayed Sam Evans, have also shared social media posts suggesting possible involvement in the revival.
Premiering in 2009, Glee followed the students of William McKinley High School as they navigated friendships, relationships, and personal struggles through their school choir, New Directions.
The series became a global pop culture phenomenon through its musical performances, covers of popular songs, and storylines exploring identity, acceptance, and ambition.
During its original run, Glee won six Primetime Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards, while launching the careers of several cast members.
Michele later found Broadway success, notably portraying Fanny Brice in the revival of Funny Girl, a role closely connected to Rachel Berry’s aspirations in the series.
The original cast also included Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, and the late Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera.
While Disney has confirmed the revival, details about its storyline, additional cast members, production schedule, and premiere date remain under wraps.
It is also unclear whether the new series will focus on the original characters or introduce a new generation of performers.
The project, for longtime fans, marks another opportunity to revisit the music and characters that made Glee one of television’s most recognizable musical dramas.
