House lead prosecutor and Batangas Rep. Atty. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro took exception to the defense’s claim of “persecution” in Vice President Sara Z. Duterte’s impeachment trial, calling it unfair to the lawyers and personnel who worked to present evidence against her.
Luistro said lead defense counsel Shiela Sison used the word “persecution” three times during Tuesday’s proceedings before the Senate impeachment court.
“Finally, Your Honor, on the use of persecution, we take offense to that. It is totally unfair on the part of the volunteer lawyers who are leaving their private practice just to be here, support the public prosecutors,” Luistro told the court.
Luistro defended the prosecution team, including private lawyers who volunteered their services to help prepare and present the case.
“It is totally unfair for all the people helping the prosecution team, exhibit their dedication and hard work in preparing and presenting evidence before the impeachment court,” Luistro also said.
