DMW cautions OFWs in gulf against sharing unverified online content

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Gulf region, particularly in Saudi Arabia, to exercise caution when sharing information on social media amid rising tensions in the region.

The advisory comes following reports of attacks at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10, 2026.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac said Saudi Arabia has strict regulations against spreading false information on social media, prompting the agency to urge Filipino workers to be mindful of the content they post or share online.

The DMW advised OFWs to refrain from posting or circulating unverified news reports, speculation, and other information concerning the security situation in the region.

The agency emphasized the importance of verifying information through reliable and official sources before sharing it online to avoid inadvertently spreading misinformation.

The DMW also warned that violations of Saudi Arabia’s existing laws on disinformation may result in imprisonment or deportation, depending on the nature of the violation and the applicable laws.

The advisory serves as a reminder for Filipino workers in the region to remain vigilant when using social media and to exercise responsibility in sharing information, particularly during periods of heightened tension.
