Japanese electronics powerhouse Toshiba Corporation is planning a major expansion of its hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturing footprint in the Philippines, a development that could generate up to 3,000 new employment opportunities.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto expressed strong government support for the expansion following a meeting with Toshiba executives at Malacañang Palace on Thursday.
“We are rooting for you,” Recto said to Toshiba Senior Executive Vice President Ikeya Koji.
He also said, “Your success here gives us more reason to push this expansion forward.”
During the discussion, Ikeya underscored the strategic role the Philippines plays in Toshiba’s overall footprint, noting that the firm remains eager to broaden its production operations across the country.
Recto welcomed the news, describing the project as a major vote of confidence in the local economy and affirming that the administration is ready to help translate prospective investments into operational facilities.
“This is exactly the kind of investment we want. One that brings technology, expands our manufacturing base, strengthens our role in global supply chains, and, most importantly, creates thousands of jobs for Filipinos,” he said.
He also said the Marcos administration aims to ensure that current foreign investors not only maintain their presence in the Philippines but also scale up their active facilities.
The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary Erwin Sta. Ana and Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Tereso Panga, highlighting ongoing government efforts to position the nation as a key regional hub for advanced technology and high-value manufacturing.
