A sitting barangay captain was arrested early Tuesday morning after law enforcers uncovered three unregistered firearms and ammunition during a raid at his residence in Pontevedra town.
Operatives from the CIDG Capiz Provincial Field Unit executed a search warrant around 5:20 a.m. on September 22, 2026. The targeted operation was carried out alongside the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, the Provincial Intelligence Team of Capiz-Regional Intelligence Unit 6, and the Capiz Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit.
The joint law enforcement team confiscated a .45-caliber pistol, a .38-caliber revolver, a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, several magazines, and live rounds.
Based on an official report submitted to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director PMGen. Robert AA Morico II, the suspect was caught “while in possession and control of the three unregistered firearms.” He was unable to show valid registration papers for any of the weapons seized during the raid.
The local official now faces formal charges before the National Prosecution Service for violating Section 28 (Unlawful Acquisition, or Possession of Firearms and Ammunition) of Republic Act No. 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
In a statement, police leaders emphasized that the successful bust “underscores the Unit’s commitment to preventing crimes by accounting for and removing from circulation and use all unregistered firearms.”
“The CIDG assures the public that it remains resolute in enforcing the law and relentless in the crackdown on loose firearms to ensure peace and order across the country,” the agency added.
