Manila is set to host the upcoming ASEAN-China Economic Ministers’ Meeting, where trade officials will seek to deepen bilateral commerce, unlock capital flows, and fortify regional supply networks across Southeast Asia and China.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Allan Gepty emphasized the critical timing of the gathering, noting China’s role as one of the bloc’s primary trading partners and sources of foreign direct investment. Given this dynamic, Gepty stressed the necessity of properly executing existing trade frameworks to maximize mutual economic benefits.
High on the agenda is the push toward the formal ratification of the upgraded ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA 3.0). Delegates will also map out strategic measures to safeguard supply chain stability and bolster regional energy security against global market volatilities.
Gepty said that the multilateral engagement is expected to open up broader commercial avenues and enhance financial stability throughout member nations, reinforcing the region’s overall economic endurance.
