Hundreds of thousands of government workers and retirees affected by severe weather events across the Philippines are set to receive massive financial aid, as the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) scaled up its emergency loan portfolio to nearly P8 billion.
The relief measure covers 317,721 active employees along with disability and old-age pensioners situated in 16 declared calamity zones throughout Luzon and Mindanao. The areas suffered intense flooding and widespread destruction brought by the combined force of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Typhoons “Luis,” “Maymay” and “Neneng.”
GSIS said the expanded loan assistance is intended to provide “timely financial support to qualified members and pensioners whose homes, livelihoods, and communities have been affected by the disasters.”
Loan Packages and Terms
- First-Time Borrowers: Eligible active members and pensioners can apply for a P20,000 emergency loan.
- Existing Borrowers: Members holding an active loan balance can access up to P40,000, with their remaining debt deducted from the total payout.
Application Deadlines by Region
- September 20: Hagonoy (Bulacan) and Masinloc (Zambales).
- September 26: Bataan; La Trinidad (Benguet); Bulacan (except Calumpit and Hagonoy); and Zambales (except Olongapo City and Masinloc).
- September 27: Nasugbu (Batangas) and Paluan (Occidental Mindoro).
- October 2: Tarlac; Benguet (excluding Baguio City and La Trinidad); and Pangasinan (excluding Dagupan City, Mangaldan, and Sta. Barbara).
- October 3: Imelda (Zamboanga Sibugay).
- October 7: Occidental Mindoro.
- October 9: Olongapo City (Zambales).
- November 12: Cavite.
- November 16: Rodriguez (Rizal).
The funding initiative follows official state-of-calamity proclamations by local government units after torrential rains left severe property damage and suspended everyday activities across affected provinces.
