Digital Change: GCash and Bench Roll Out ‘GSukli’ for In-Store Purchases

GCash has officially launched GSukli, a new feature designed to eliminate loose physical change by allowing shoppers to receive their balance directly into their digital wallets for free.

The service has debuted nationwide across all branches of retail giant Bench, with plans to expand the offering to other brands under Suyen Corporation in the near future.

Under the new system, customers making physical cash payments can choose to have their change digitally credited to their GCash account rather than carrying physical coins. For any transaction resulting in change up to P199.99, shoppers simply share their registered GCash mobile number with the cashier at checkout. The funds are instantly transferred, and the customer receives an immediate SMS confirmation.

Executive leadership at GCash highlighted how the initiative bridges the gap between traditional cash habits and digital convenience.

“Small amounts can go a long way when made easily accessible. This newest feature reflects the commitment of GCash to making financial tools more practical and inclusive by helping users seamlessly move between cash and digital transactions,” Barbie Dapul, Chief Operating Officer & General Manager for Consumer Business said.

The integration of GSukli into Bench stores targets everyday retail shoppers in the Philippines, where cash remains a primary method for routine transactions despite the rapid rise of digital payments.

Bench’s Vice President for Business Development Bryan C. Lim said “Bench has always been committed to making everyday experiences simpler and more convenient for our customers. Through our partnership with GCash, GSukli gives customers a practical way to put their sukli to use while making the checkout experience even more seamless for every in-store visit.”

The rollout comes at a time when financial technology providers are seeking novel ways to digitize micro-transactions, turning everyday coins into immediate digital savings.
