Ridon Flags ‘Double Standard’ in VP Sara Booking, Mug Shot Procedure

House prosecutor and Bicol Saro party-list Representative Terry Ridon called out the Philippine National Police (PNP) for alleged double standards after Vice President Sara Z. Duterte was exempted from standard booking and mugshot procedures following her bail application.

Ridon contrasted Duterte’s process with that of Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who was taken into PNP custody for full booking procedures and a mugshot despite appearing in court and posting bail.

While recognizing Duterte’s right as an accused to seek bail, Ridon emphasized that law enforcement must apply equally regardless of an individual’s rank. He rejected claims by Duterte’s camp that submitting a photograph satisfied requirements, challenging the PNP to explain why Marcoleta was not granted the same accommodation.

Ridon warned that selective application of procedures sets a dangerous precedent, leaving law enforcers to arbitrarily decide who receives strict treatment and who gets leniency. He added that the PNP must clarify which process is standard moving forward.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker also urged the Vice President to personally face her ongoing Senate impeachment trial, noting that while criminal and impeachment proceedings are distinct, both require her direct attendance.
