Five new fatalities in Central Luzon pushed the official death toll from the southwest monsoon (habagat) and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng to 39, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported.
The latest casualties include three individuals killed by landslides in Zambales, along with two in Pampanga caused by a landslide and drowning.
More than 10 additional deaths remain subject to verification. Unverified cases include nine passengers who died when a motor banca capsized off San Marcelino, Zambales, and two victims from the collapse of the Agana Bridge in Tarlac City, where two individuals remain missing.
Prior to the Central Luzon reports, 34 fatalities were confirmed across provinces in several regions:
- Benguet: 15
- Batangas: 4
- Rizal: 4
- Caloocan City: 3
- Occidental Mindoro: 2
- Quezon: 2
- Oriental Mindoro: 1
- Negros Occidental: 1
- La Union: 1
- Pangasinan: 1
The OCD listed 20 people injured and three missing, one each in Manila, Quezon City and Batangas.
Flooding persists across 711 areas, concentrated heavily in Central Luzon. The affected population has expanded to 9.4 million individuals (2.7 million families), with 71,364 people currently sheltered in 968 evacuation centers.
Damage estimates stand at P6.27 billion for infrastructure and P2.84 billion for agriculture, alongside roughly 3,900 damaged homes. Government aid distributed to affected communities has reached P1.85 billion.
